Congressman David Trone

"I'm proud to support Karl Bickel as he fights to become our next Sheriff in Frederick County. As the needs of the county change, Karl brings the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to address the challenges ahead and lead a new, 21st century vision for the Sheriff's Office.

Over a decades long career in law enforcement, he's worked to create just and safe communities as a major city police officer, law enforcement consultant, second in command of Frederick’s Sheriff’s Office and in partnership with the U. S. Department of Justice overseeing national training and technical assistance provided to state, local and tribal law enforcement."

Alderman Kelly Russell

Karl Bickel is the right choice for Sheriff of Frederick County. Here’s why I’m so sure.

I served as a police officer with the Frederick Police Department For 22 years. I reached the rank of Lieutenant, serving as Commander of the Human Resources Division. In that capacity, I recruited and screened thousands of applicants and hired dozens of police officers.

I understand firsthand what it takes to deliver effective and equitable law enforcement, strengthen trust, and build community relationships. I also understand the impact on a community and an agency’s morale and effectiveness when you don’t.

Modern policing is about providing excellent service and building trust within our community. It’s about reducing crime and fear of crime. It’s about problem-solving and engagement with all people in our community. And it’s about transparency and accountability from the top down.

Karl’s knowledge, education, and experience in police service are superior. He has dedicated 40 years to the field - in operations, training, and policy development. He has served as a patrol officer, detective, analyst, educator, and was the former chief of law enforcement operations for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO).

Karl raised his family here in Frederick County. For 30 years, he has served our community as a  leader and subject matter expert in areas as diverse as substance abuse, human relations, ethics, criminal justice, and aging. He is the consummate professional leader our county needs and deserves.

I’ve made my choice and it’s Karl Bickel for Sheriff. I’m voting for Karl for our county, communities, and neighborhoods. I’m voting for Karl to lead the outstanding women and men of our FCSO who have dedicated their lives in service to you.

Early Voting is from October 27—November 3. Election Day is Tuesday, November 8. Polls are open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Mail-In Voting starts when you receive your ballot.

I invite you to join me in voting for Karl Bickel to be our next Frederick County Sheriff!
